Artist Statement

"Within my interdisciplinary practice, focusing on installation, I investigate themes of advocacy and activism through the lens of experience and the relationship between Western Society and nature. Expanding upon areas of study such as conservation, sociology, folklore, film and community engagement, I critique the various discourses and institutions in which activists must navigate to strive for change in the natural world and the 2SLGBTQ+ community. The media and processes I choose to use is based upon on the conceptual underpinnings of my work, always working to reinforce the concept. Rooting my practice in historical uses of different media and modifying them to speak to the themes of my work.

Within this framework I have a special interest in the interaction the western world has with non-human animals with the overarching  themes of; the demonization of nature; care of self; care of community; the personification and disembodiment of nature; how these relationships are exploitative or destructive; and the way in which both can move toward reciprocity.  Along with an interest in showing the experience of the 2SLGBTQ+ community and their disassociation within Western Society. My practice seeks to express that there is no singular experience as the community does not exist as a monolith."
